You all must have heard the term "Link Building". Whenever we talk about the SEO (Search Engine Optimization) techniques for your business websites, Link building is considered as the integral part of it which can tumble your ranking on either way. When things have importance, certain cocky facts surrounds them. Today we are going to discuss those facts. These myths have no relevance from the facts yet they are very much in practice nowadays.
Google has clearly stated that the "Link Building" is still in the top two position to determine the position in the search engine. Remember the base rule of SERP ranking, 'Without backlinks, your page will not be ranked'.
There are many rules related to link building, and you should follow them with all your capacity and resources. But, be advised there are myths also lurking around it, and the interesting thing is, they are in the form of rules. And people are actually following them, believing them blindly. You have every right to know about these myths. In fact, In my opinion, you should be able to differentiate between the facts and the myths which will help you to create better strategies for your link building process.
Should I begin?
Alright then, let's begin!
Link building is in the stage of Extinction like Dinosaurs!
I have heard this nonsense like thousands of times, and seriously, I feel pity for those who predicted such thing. But I would like to present their logic before accusing them (Oh! I accused them already). They believe that with the introduction of the apps, the links lost their relevance as apps don't need the help of links. They even predicted that with the evolution of the Google AI "Rankbrain", the usage of a link will not be required and link building will no longer be needed to rank higher in the SERPs.
Well, it is the most common myth so, I guess most of you must have listened. I just want to tell you one thing, Do not dare to believe them, coz that's a myth. There is no such thing and link building is still among the pivotal role of deciding your site's ranking on SERP.
Just use real and high content quality links and you're all set to acquire good rankings. Do not fall for this myth. It was an anticipation and already has been falsified by Google itself.
Nofollow links are useless as VCR box!
rel="Nofollow" tag has always been a nightmare for SEOs. They put so many efforts on putting the Nofollow link, yet the results are mostly disheartening. This lead to a common misunderstanding that, "Nofollow links have no impact on the SEO rankings of the website".
See, you all have heard the story of Fox and the grapes. Even here, that same story is following up. When the SEOs couldn't succeed in attaining good rankings, well the grapes are sour (Nofollow links are useless).
Even the surveys have shown that the trend of Nofollow links is increasing. A Nofollow link from a genuine site can actually boost up your website's SERP ranking. So, do not fall for this hauch pouch.
Spam will be labeled if you use Directory and Forum Links!
There was this time when Directory and forum links were abused to plant manipulative links. This w
as the part of practice before Google introduced Penguin Algorithm. But always bear one thing in mind, Directory and Forum linking is not about the application, it is all about tactics.
Do not misinterpret me as you should use directory and Forum links in your strategies of link building. However, if you are active in commenting on your blog posts, then you shouldn't be afraid of leaving a link behind.
30+ Domain Authority is a must!
Do you know the fact that Domain Authority is a term by moz? Actually, moz put this term into reality with some of their excellent services. However, don't forget, moz is a third party and its parameter will just add a pinch of paprika. But yes, sometimes just a small amount can enhance the taste.
Just a food for thought, if a website is new, then obviously its DA will be low. So, is it wise to think that the content on the website in not of quality? Of course not.
Still, that doesn't make it a MUST, it is just. (:-D). So, do not fall for this myth, but don't be shy to use DA (Domain Authority).
The hard and fast rule for variation of anchor text usage.
Now, you must have advised using keyword anchor text, a phrase in some pre-written format like this percent to brand imaging, this percent to semi branding and blah and blah. Ok now wait, stop. I just have one word for this, i.e., MYTH! MYTH! MYTH!
So, overall you can use synonyms for the keywords. Google has done a lot of research for this particular task. They even suggested using long tail keywords. So, "Keywords if are not in their original form, still its OK".
Links from Authorities like Wikipedia will boost your ranking!
First things first, Google is not Wiki biased. Actually, Google is not biased for any of the website. For rectifying this confusion, Google tweeted on twitter that they do not treat Wikipedia as special, it is just as another website for Google.
Fun fact is even Wikipedia works hard on link building to get good ranking over Google SERPs. So, you know what to do...Don't fall for it.
So, these are some of the common myths which are trending over the website owners and SEO aspirants. But I guess now you know what's a myth and what's a fact.
If you like the post, please do share it, and if you have other myths to share, please feel free to comment. I will respond. That's my promise. Till then, have a good one.
